"Electronic maze" One of our
many unique, custom-designed experiential initiatives.
To the uninitiated, it's a strange sight.
Twenty corporate managers gathered around a 6' x 9', checkered,
electronic carpet. There is a visible intensity. One
thing is clear about our methods of "building a team," the
participants are totally captivated by the team challenge in
front of them.
Getting the group to the other end of the maze
has been "framed" by our professional facilitators in such a way
that it represents the group's collective vision and desired
results.
One at a time, team members step out onto the
carpet and seek to extend the group's forward progress along the
metaphoric journey. The progress is very much an error-making
and error-correcting process. Since all of the territory is
unknown when the exercise begins, "productive mistakes" (first
time beeps) are essential and valuable information. The
team's success is dependent upon the emerging information being
quickly assimilated into the collective intelligence of the
whole team. Like any maze, the "electronic maze" challenge
has diagonal moves, forward moves, and backward moves.
Like any organizations journey, the electronic maze has broad
canyons, dead ends, and confusion points.
Unlike a formal classroom
discussion about total quality management or high performing
organizations, the participants have just lived these concepts.
They have been through a "practice field" and learned from their
own direct experience. The debriefing insures that the key
learning's are shared, understood and transferred. The
group is one step closer along the path to achieving a higher
level of success.
